Key West Florida

Love, love, love Key West Florida! ! We visited there for our first Anniversary. The crystal clear water is great for snorkeling. The sea life is great.  The sunsets are breathtaking.   Tons of history there. So many things to see,  you need at least a week to take it all in.
Below is Bahia Honda! Beautiful Beaches!!
Here is a starfish that we saw as we were kayaking out to Indian Key.  Highly recommend taking a tour of Indian Key.  There is so much history there.  Kayak or boat is the only way to get there.  The water is crystal clear the whole trip.  It's something you won't forget.
 Another beautiful sunset!

Roosters and hens are everywhere in Key West.  They are protected, so I don't recommend harassing them unless you want a nice fine.

Here is the Southernmost Point of the United States.  You are only 90 miles from Cuba at this spot.  A must see
The Ernest Hemingway House is well worth the time to tour.  The Hemingway 6 toed cats are pretty cool too.
This is the spot on Indian Key where we beached our kayaks for the day to tour the Key.  Pictures could never do it justice.

Another picture of kayaking in the Keys

Since we were there during New Years, the Catholic Church still had all their Christmas lights up.  This is also a must see if you are there during that time of year.  There is no way that any pictures could do it justice.  It was amazing

Cumberland Island

This place is my favorite to visit.  You reach it by ferry or your own personal vessel.  You have the best of both worlds here.  There are miles of unspoiled beach along with live oak forests.  The wildlife ranges from alligators, raccoons, opossums, armadillos, birds, sea life, wild horses and deer.  They only allow so many people on the island at a time, so it is not unusual to go on the beach and never see a soul.  They have camp sites with cold showers and restrooms, along with primitive camping.  It is also open for day trippers.  If you feel like a small hike, you can see the Carnegie ruins.
You will find more sea shells than you would ever want.  Conch shells, sand dollars, and starfish are all some of the treasures you will find here.  We have visited here 3 times now and on our last trip, we saw at least a dozen sting rays.  Wild horses and deer also walk the beaches.
The trails along the live oak forest are amazing.  The ruins are about a mile and a half from the sea camp base.  It is definitely worth the hike to see them.
Below you will see the pictures of all the different wildlife we have seen while on the island.  I would definitely recommend this place if you don't mind tent camping and want to get away from society for awhile.  There are no stores on the island, so bring plenty of food for your trip, but beware of the raccoons.  They are smart little critters!!

I will also post some other cool pictures that I got while on the island.  The sunrise is amazing there.

About Us

My husband and I have been married since January 1, 2011.  We have a blended family with 2 children each and I wouldn't have it any other way.  We both love the outdoors and use every opportunity we have to enjoy it.  We have a long list of hobbies including, but not limited to, backpacking, camping, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling, rock climbing, fishing, bike riding and anything that has to do with being outdoors.  We both love nature and wildlife.  I love the beach and he loves the mountains, so we compromise. We take many trips, some long, but most short.  I created this blog to share our many adventures and things we might see along the way.  Hope you enjoy!
